Jesse Helms Receives The Grand Cross Award
January 6, 2001 The Scottish Rite awarded its Highest Honor to United States Senator,
the Honorable Jesse Helms. The ceremony was performed at the Scottish Rite Valley of Raleigh,
of which Senator Helms is a member. The award was presented by the Sovereign Grand Inspector General,
Orient of North Carolina, Illustrious William B. Brunk,33 Degree.
The ceremony was great, Senator Helms was very entertaining, although he did state that he
did not feel he deserved such an honor. It was also stated that the people that do not feel they
deserve such an honor are the one's that usually receive it. Senator Helms was awarded the
Grand Cross for his work for humanity, the state of North Carolina, and his representation of
Freemasonry throughout his many years of service.
The award consisted of a Certificate, a Cross
and a Hat.
