Brethren,

Tidings from the East.  On February 4th, Garner Lodge 701 banded together eight righteous, upstanding Masons and descended upon William T. Bain Lodge 231and victoriously captured the “Traveling Gavel”.  It was a huge surprise to Masters 754, who had 6 members present at the same meeting.  It saddens me to say that at our stated communication on February 11th, the gavel was seized by Vandora Loge 745, who had 10 members in attendance.  Vandora was led by Master Steve Langdon.  Now we must wait 30 days before attempting to re-capture the gavel.

We had a fantastic turnout for our Valentine’s Day meal; over 90 people in attendance.  We are very grateful to the chef’s crew for such a tremendous job and once again thank you to the brethren who donated the steak and lobster for the meal.  The meal yielded us over $900 for our first fundraiser of the year for our charities.

I would like to recognize brother Ronnie Williams and his degree team for an outstanding job done on the third degree on February 11, 2002.  We raised three new Masons on that night as well.

On February 16, 2002, Garner 701 will be taking our charter up to the MESH home in Greensboro, opening a lodge for the brothers there and putting on some Masonic plays for them.

On May 4, 2002, we will have a District 15 Project at the Masonic Children’s Home in Oxford.  We will be serving the meal and need everyone’s participation.  Hope to see you all there!

Brethren, please also keep in mind the District 15 Meeting with the Grand Master at Master’s Lodge on April 18, 2002 and please plan to attend.

I would like to apologize for failure to mention my Stewards in last month’s newletter when naming this year’s officers.  My Stewards for the year 2002 are Randy Williams (Senior Steward) and Barry Tucker (Junior Steward).  Please accept my heartfelt apologies.

In closing, I’d like to say, “We’ve gotten the year off to a great start and I appreciate everyone’s support and participation and we’ll all continue to work to make this another great year for Garner Lodge 701.”

                                                                                                Fraternally,
