June 2002 Newsletter

Brethren,

Tidings from the East.  We had our last stated communication on May 13th.  We enjoyed a fantastic meal of spaghetti and meat balls, along with some wonderful homemade brownies and ice cream.  Many thanks to the chef’s crew and Cathy Talaska.  After the dinner, we had a short business meeting where we approved the purchase of an industrial mixer for the lodge.

On May 4, 2002, we attended the District 15 Project at the Masonic Children’s Home in Oxford.  We served a meal of barbeque chicken, french fries, slaw, baked beans and desserts.  I was very proud of the participation from the Garner Lodge.  There was a DJ and the children danced and had a great time…along with a lot of us older folks!

We would love to see a record particiation at M.E.S.H. in Greensboro on July 13,2002, when we have our annual District 15 BBQ.  Everyone please try to attend.  If you’ve never visited, it would be a worthwhile trip…remember brothers, this is your home too.

To our knowledge, the traveling gavel is currently in the possession of the Cary Lodge.  It is rumored that William T. Bain Lodge is planning an attack to re-capture the gavel.

Many thanks to the brothers who attended the Schools of Instruction and the Grand Master’s Area Meeting last month.  Again, I was very proud of our attendance.

If you haven’t done so, please take a moment to look at our wonderful web site.  The web address is www.garnerlodge701.org.  Our webmaster is Brother Ken Hartman and he has done an outstanding job for us and has won many awards.  The latest two are the WML Masonic Award and the Drake’s Masonic Award of Excellence.  Great Job…Ken!!

In closing, I’d like to say, “Thank you for all your support and fellowship.  We are heading towards a great year.  Keep up the good work!”
