November 2003 Newsletter

Words from the East......

Reports from the East...........Since our last newsletter, I have attended Grand Lodge with the other two principal officers, Greg Ray and Ken Hartman. Most of the proposed amendments were voted down. There were a couple of surprises, however. The "big concern" was the Prince Hall recognition resolution. It was defeated in an extremely close vote. It appears that it will continue to come back on a yearly basis.

The lodge was also represented at the school of instruction on September 25th and 29th, thanks to Greg Ray, Ken Hartman. Barry Tucker, and yours truly. DDGL Walt Highsmith concluded his term with yet another good school of instruction.

At our October 13th meeting, we enjoyed good food and fellowship prior to the meeting.

The lodge was opened and business transacted. Recent repairs were reported on having taken place to the upstairs bathroom, the kitchen sink, and the ice machine in an effort to save water. We are spending money to save money in the future. The Secretary reported on two favorable recommendations from two investigating committees. Two ballots were spread and two were elected to receive the degrees. Brother Junior Deacon Randy Williams announced that the degrees will be conferred on November 10th.

I am also happy to report that the lodge received two applications for life membership for Brothers Bill Picket and Harry Pitts. These  will lay over for thirty days  and then be acted on.........We heard a report from Grand Lodge and from the school of instruction. Brother Jim Talaska gave a thought provoking Masonic education program entitled "Masonic Leadership".........At this writing, I have only four(4) meetings  left  in my year as your Master.

The first meeting in November will be "move up" night" and will also be first degree night. Also, please remember officer election night on December 8th. On December 6th, just prior to election night, we will have our Christmas Widows' night dinner. Mark these dates on your calendars. The leaves continue to turn colors, there is frost on the pumpkin, a chill in the air, college basketball season is about to begin, and I will soon be a past master. Yes, life is good!............Thank you for letting me serve.

FRATERNALLY,
